Amersham in Transition monthly meeting

Are you concerned about our carbon footprint and dependency on oil?  Do you want to make a difference?

You can!  Come and join a group of Amersham residents who are working together to promote waste reduction, recycling, local food production and sourcing, energy efficiency, sustainable transport and community revitalisation.  Until the end of this year our meeting dates will be every 2nd Tuesday each month.  Next meeting:

Love Food Hate Waste workshop

Where:   Café Africa, Chesham Road, Amersham
When:    Thursday 16th September 2010

We are hosting a Love Food Hate Waste workshop – see flyer for more details.

The workshop is being hosted jointly by Amersham in Transition, Chiltern District Council and Bucks County Council, and will be run by Emma Barnett, the south east regional Waste Reduction Advisor for WRAP (Waste & Resources Action Programme).  She will talk about the Love Food Hate Waste campaign’s research and the impact of food waste on the environment, as well as provide practical ideas and advice.  Participants are encouraged to keep a record of the food they throw away in the week ahead of the workshop – click here for a food waste diary.

Eco Home Open House Afternoon

Visit the home of local residents who have retro-fitted their home to reduce energy consumption.  Get useful hints and tips on how you can make cost-effective improvements to your home to reduce your gas and electricity bills.

Make Do & Mend

Where:   St Michael’s Church hall, Sycamore Road, Amersham
When:    Saturday 12th March 2011
Time:      1-4pm

Find out all those practical things your parents never taught you!  Local people and businesses will share their experience and provide demonstrations on basic skills such as how to mend your clothes, repair your bicycle, use old-fashioned ingredients to clean your house and much more.  Free entry.  Tea, coffee and cakes will be served.  See flyer for more details

Talking Energy … LIVE!

A discussion forum on home energy efficiency in collaboration with e.on hosted by TV Presenter PHILIPPA FORRESTER
The event will focus on three questions of growing concern for all of us:

  • How can we generate our own energy?

Grow Your Own Open Garden

Where:   Local gardens in Amersham

Visit the gardens of local residents who grow their own fruit and vegetables on a large or small scale, and get inspiration for ‘growing your own’  Free admission.

Amersham on the Hill Late Night Shopping

Where:   Sycamore Road, Amersham on the Hill
When:    Friday 9th December 2011
Time:      5 – 8pm

We will have a stall at this annual Amersham Christmas Festival (more details here) on Friday 9th December from 5pm on Sycamore Road, Amersham on the Hill. We will be promoting ideas for a local Christmas and selling our AiT apple juice along with other local produce. Any contributions of home made or grown produce will be gratefully received. Do come along and say hello during the evening.

Little Chalfont ‘Garden Together’ Project – evening event

Where:   Little Chalfont Community Library
When:    Tuesday 21st February 2012 (Shrove Tuesday)
Time:      7.30 – 9.00pm

During the monthly Little Chalfont Farmers’ Markets in January and February, we had a stand in the village hall with information about a new ‘Garden Share’ scheme, as well as ‘Grow Together Clubs’ and a ‘Grow Your Own’ Course, all ways of helping you to grow your own fruit and vegetables in 2012 with the support of others who are interested or more experienced.  Or you might want to offer some of your garden to someone who is interested in growing their own but does not have land to do so.  Information was also available as a display in the Little Chalfont Community Library. Following on from this, we will be hosting an evening event to launch the project.  Come along if you are at all interested in growing your own in 2012!

Grow Your Own Plant Stall

Where:   Little Chalfont Farmer’s Market

We will have a stall at the Little Chalfont Farmers’ Markets in May with fruit and veg plants sown from seed by members of AiT.  For Grow Your Own beginners or enthusiasts.

Amersham Clean Up Day

Amersham in Transition will be present at the Amersham Town Council’s annual Clean up day to help with recycling of the litter collected.  See here for more details (scroll down the page that opens up for details).

Old Amersham Heritage Day

Where:   Old Amersham High Street and Church Mead, Amersham
When:    Sunday 9th September 2012
Time:      11am – 5pm

Come and visit the Amersham in Transition stall at the Heritage Day and share your thoughts on what you would like Amersham to be like in the future.  We will have our AiT apple juice for sale, details of local food sources and information on our Garden Share initiative.
